Capturing the Magic of Performance
Clive Barda is a renowned photographer with over five decades of experience working with the world's greatest artists. His extensive portfolio includes a wide range of genres, including opera, theatre, and music. Throughout his illustrious career, Clive has built an unrivalled record of capturing the most iconic performances by the world's leading opera houses and theatre companies.
Operatic Excellence
Clive has a particularly strong affinity for opera, having enjoyed long associations with many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, and Opera North, among others. His specialist knowledge of the opera field is unmatched by few photographers. Clive's unique ability to anticipate and capture crucial moments and key characters makes his work equally suited for use in the press, brochures, or at the front of house.
Theatre and Music
In addition to his opera expertise, Clive has also maintained a lively interest in the theatre, having worked on a regular basis for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), National Theatre (NT), and Phantom of the Opera, since its first London performance in 1986. Photographing stage productions demands a mastery of working in difficult low-light conditions, a skill Clive has honed over the years.
Noh and Prints
Clive's extensive experience in the world of theatre and opera has also led him to document the traditional Japanese art form of Noh. His photographs showcase the intricate details and unique cultural significance of this ancient tradition. Additionally, his extensive collection of photographs are available as limited edition prints, offering a unique opportunity for serious collectors to own a piece of artistic history.
Books
Clive has authored two books, "Performance!", a retrospective of his work with classical musicians and opera singers, published in December 2000, and "The Power of the Ring" (2007), which documents the latest production of Wagner's Ring at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. His extensive bibliography also includes publications such as "The Complete Aspects of Love" by Kurt Ganzl, "Celebration!" (1990), and "The Sculpture of David Wynne" (1968-1974).
